AmyWe were deeply saddened last week to learn of the death of a bright young community musician, Amy Moar. Amy was involved with Hear My Music as a trainee from the very first project that we ran as an organisation. I met Amy when she was a senior pupil at the City of Edinburgh Music School where she expressed an interest in community music.

Through supporting Amy to develop and lead a project with primary and nursery children, I first learnt of her immense compassion towards each individual child and her easy-going ability to get on with everyone who she met.

She was a wonderful asset to Hear My Music, using her quick thinking and wonderful musicianship to accompany children and adults sensitively. She had an ability to improvise and join a musical conversation with anybody, using her musical skills to put whoever she was playing with immediately at ease. To every project she was involved in she brought not only her musicality but her warm, calm personality. It was a joy to work with Amy and to watch her progress into an accomplished community musician, most recently through hearing about her work with Drake Music Scotland. She will be sorely missed at Hear My Music as a friend and musician.
